Andrea D. Maier, 71, of Granby, passed away on March 1, 2018 at Hartford Hospital. Andrea was born in Hartford on August 30, 1946, daughter of the late Clarence Stephen Cook and Ottilie Bertha (Hein) Cook. In her youth she was an excellent violinist who was invited (but graciously declined) to study under the concert mistress of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in Austria. Andrea graduated from William H. Hall High School in West Hartford in 1964 and received an associate's degree in accounting from Fisher College in Boston, MA. She worked as an Accounting Manager for Westminster School for many years and retired early in 2008 to care for her ailing mother. Her compassionate and gentle nature enabled her to care not only for her mother but also her husband's parents during their final years. She was very thoughtful and her generosity was shown in causes close to her heart. Andrea excelled in cooking Bavarian specialties and enjoyed keeping her German heritage alive. During her leisure time, she time took great pleasure in traveling and visiting local vineyards. Andrea is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Reinhard W. Maier of Granby; a dear friend of 50 years, Jane Pellerin; a special cousin, Alison Siller of West Springfield, MA as well as a host of cousins and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents and mother- in-law, Josefine Maier and father-in-law, Erich Maier. Her family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 365 Salmon Brook Rd., Granby, CT 06035. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of her family in Granby Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Andrea's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
