It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Claire F. (Fortier) Peltier, 90, of Simsbury CT, formerly of Wilbraham, MA, on September 15, 2017. Born on November 11, 1926, in Manchester, NH, Claire was the devoted daughter of the late Marie Ange (Lanciault) & Sylvio Fortier. Claire was predeceased by her loving husband Armand Peltier of 53 years. Married November 16, 1946, their marriage was a wonderful life journey with many years of international and domestic travel. Because of her interest in different cultures, she established a chapter of the World Affairs Council. She also found fulfillment working for the Valero Company in Springfield, MA, as credit manager for many years. As a young woman she attended Rivier College in Nashua, NH, where she majored in theater. Later in life she founded the Wilbraham Community Theater group and became its first President. Along with acting in and directing many productions, she was a member of the New England Theater Conference and was involved in the Wilbraham Bicentennial Celebration. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, entertaining friends, gardening, playing bridge, and reading. Christmas was her favorite holiday surrounded by her family. Her true love and passion was her family. She is survived by four children: Roger Peltier and his wife Florence of West Springfield, MA; Norman Peltier and his wife Linda of Canton, CT; Dianne (Peltier) Dolat of Coventry, CT; and Gerald Peltier and his wife Theresa of Groton, SD. She is also survived by her brother Normand Fortier and his wife Joan of Holden, MA, 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, as well as her many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend heartfelt love, thanks, and gratitude to the staff, nurses, and all the angels at the McLean, Simsbury, CT, for their excellent care of our mother. Her family will receive friends Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 3:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 4:00pm. A reception will follow the service at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon, CT 06001. Interment will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Agawam, MA, beside her husband Armand, at the convenience of the family. For those wishing to honor Claire’s life, the family suggest donations be made to the McLean, 75 Great Pond Road, Simsbury, CT 06070 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
