Edith Maude (Dennis) Thompson, 91, of Bloomfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Jamaica to the late Theodore and Florizel (West) Dennis, she has been a resident of Bloomfield for over 37 years. Edith worked as a homemaker and Dress Maker until she immigrated to the United States and worked for over 10 years as a custodian at the University of Hartford. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling, shopping, discussing current events, and loved to watch Professional Wrestling. She was a very family oriented woman who cherished spending time with and serving as a caregiver for her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a role she continued into her 80's. Edith is survived by her sons, Ruel McKenzie and his wife Julian of Bloomfield, Samah McKenzie of Bloomfield, Everald Thompson and his wife Sharon of Hartford, Everton Thompson and his wife Sharon of Georgia, Michael Thompson and his wife Sandra of South Windsor; her daughters, Beverly Clarke and her husband Samuel of Windsor, Stephanie Henry and her husband Vin of Florida, Janet Robinson and her husband LeeRoy of Hartford, and Novelette Thompson-Morgan and her husband Peter of Bloomfield; 33 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; her brother Desmond Dennis of Hartford, nieces, nephews, lifelong friend Iris Dandy of Bloomfield and many others. In addition to her parents Edith was predeceased by her brother Ferdinand Campbell and her sisters, Matilda Morgan, Irene Simmons and Enid Boyd. A funeral service will be held at 9:45 AM Saturday, December 3 at the Good News Release Center, 690 Blue Hills Avenue, Hartford, CT, 06112, followed by burial in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Her family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 9 AM to 9:45 AM.
