Evelyn (Mazza) Lathrop, 83, of Manchester, formerly of N. Ft. Meyers, FL and South Windsor, beloved wife of Bernard A. Lathrop died peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. She was born in Ridgefield, CT, on June 23, 1933, daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Murray) Mazza. Evelyn grew up in East Hartford and was a graduate of East Hartford High School. Evelyn married the love of her life, Bernard Lathrop in 1954 and together they settled in South Windsor. Evelyn worked as a secretary for the East Hartford Board of Education for many years. Upon her retirement, Evelyn was blessed with many years in N. Ft. Meyers, FL. A kind, caring and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend she will be greatly missed. Along with her husband Bernard, she leaves her sons, Steven Lathrop and his wife Lindy of Berlin and Brian Lathrop and his wife Sandy of South Windsor; her sisters, Dorothy Czarnecki of Enfield, and Edith Guerrera of Maine; four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Mazza. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2016, 2 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. Her family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 20 Batterson Park Rd., 3rd Floor, Farmington, CT 06032.
