Jean I. "Mama Jean" (MacBeth) Yellen, 93, of Manchester, formerly of Vernon, beloved wife of John R. Yellen, died peacefully on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Woodlake of Tolland. She was born on July 26, 1923 in Hartford, CT, daughter of the late Andrew and Theresa (Lawlor) MacBeth. Jean grew up in Hartford and graduated from Bulkeley High School. A resident of Vernon for over 60 years, she was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church. Jean was a strong and intelligent woman. She was an avid reader, was a Jeopardy enthusiast and enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and UCONN Basketball. Jean was also enjoyed sewing and knitting. A kind, caring and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, she will be greatly missed by all. Along with her husband John, of 69 years, she leaves her children, Mary Deane and her husband Robert of Vernon, Christopher Yellen and his wife Karen of Concord, NH and David Yellen and his fiancé Diana Hutchinson of Mystic; her brother, Frank MacBeth and his wife Janet of TX; her daughter-in-law, Robin Yellen of St. Petersburg, FL; 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Peter Yellen. Funeral services will be held at a date and time to be announced after the holiday season.
