Marylynn Catherine (Gereg) Hobbs, 65, of Hamden, beloved wife of Robert V. Hobbs, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Hamden after a long illness. She fought hard for over eight years and that fight is a testament to her strength, faith, and character. She was likely the kindest person you would ever meet. Marylynn was born in Rochester, NY, the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary “Mae” (Carey) Gereg on July 15, 1952. She went to high school at New Milford High School and graduated in 1970. She went on to earn a degree in Executive Science from Post University. She spent her final years prior to her illness working at Wethersfield Public Library, where she adored her colleagues and her patrons. She was also a Eucharistic Minister at St. Isaac Jogues in East Hartford with her husband, and she was a devoted Catholic until her final day with us. She enjoyed reading mysteries, going out to lunch, saying the rosary, watching QVC, and spending time with her family. She made frequent visits to Ireland with her husband and daughter to see the family she loved so much. Family was everything to her, including her chosen family. She lived most of her life in East Hartford. In addition to her devoted husband, Marylynn is survived by her loving daughter, Kathleen (Eric) Cropper of Branford; her brother Richard (Sallie) Gereg of Sachse, TX; three brothers-in-law, Declan (Trish), John (Diane), and Eamonn (Danielle); many nieces and nephews; including her goddaughter, Courtney; her great nieces and nephews; two “sisters of the heart,” Ann Montgomery and Maria Carpenter of CT; a special cousin, Mary (Kevin) Nicoll of NY; her family in Ireland, and her loyal friends from Wethersfield Public Library, especially Monica. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Hamden Health Care Center (especially Vickie, and Kim who were with her in her final moments) and CT Hospice (especially Laurie and Gene) for their support in her final days. Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at a time to be announced at St. Isaac Jogues Church, 1 Community Street, East Hartford. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for a scholarship in her name may be made to East Catholic High School, 115 New State Road, Manchester, CT 06042. Condolences may be left in Marylynn’s online guestbook at
