Roberta M. (Tierney) Weigert, 69, of Vernon, beloved wife of the late Andrew R. Weigert III, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at her home. Roberta was the daughter of the late Raymond J. and Mary E. (Sullivan) Tierney. Roberta was educated in the Manchester school system, and was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing. After graduation, she worked at St. Francis Hospital. Roberta “Bert” volunteered at Hospice of Vernon where she did office work, home, hospital, and nursing home visits. In 2001, she was nominated for the United Way Courage Award in recognition of her service to patients and clients of Hospice of Vernon. Bert had made many friends during her lifetime due to her indomitable spirit and upbeat personality. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Many wondered how a small body could hold such a large heart. She was most grateful for the wonderful support provided to her through the years by her cadre of friends. She is survived by her brother, Paul J. Tierney of New Hampton, NH; her two nieces, Lisa M. (Tierney) Callahan of Boston, MA, and Patty Tierney of East Haddam; her five nephews, Sean Tierney of Hong Kong, Michael Tierney of West Hartford, Daniel Tierney of East Haddam, Andrew Tierney of Marlborough, and Phillip Tierney of East Haddam, and numerous dear friends. Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 4 - 6 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manchester. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, CT Chapter, 65 High Ridge Road, Box 395, Stamford, CT 06905.
