Wayne Woodtke, 63, passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday May 14th in loving hands, surrounded by those cherished by him. He was born February 25, 1954 to parents Frank and Helen Woodtke, a brave kid known for a big appetite for adventure and mischief and an even bigger heart. Wayne was married to his caring wife Margaret Woodtke for 31 years, who survives him. They created a life centered on the love and joy of their three heartbroken children, Caytlin, Jordyn, and Matthew who he leaves as well. Wayne is also survived by his brother Frank Woodtke II, sister-in-law Christine Woodtke and their sons Jeremy and Troy; his sister Wendy Merola, brother-in-law Tony Merola, their daughters Allyson and Kimberly; his sister Amybeth Breden, brother-in-law Terry Breden and their children Joshua, Elizabeth, and Claire; his four great-nephews Jack, Sam, Charlie, and Max. He adored his many nieces and nephews. He worked for 30 years in banking and then moved on to work for the Association of Retired Teachers of Connecticut; over those years he developed many dear friendships he prized. Wayne leaves behind the memory of his fierce sense of humor, his passions for music and film, and his flair for storytelling. He loved The Beatles and sweets, their dog Hercules, coffee and the beach and summertime. He liked to watch birds eat from the feeders outside his window, especially cardinals which were his favorite. His family will miss waiting fifteen minutes for him to set up music on Christmas morning and his suffocating bear hugs. Wayne's pride in his family and deep happiness found in passed-down traditions is a legacy that will not soon be forgotten by those who already miss him so much. A Memorial Mass is scheduled for Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 10 am at St. Bartholomew Church in Manchester, leaving from the funeral home at 9:30. Burial will be private at the convenience of his family. Calling hours are being held from 4- 8 pm on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, (Route 83) Vernon, CT. In lieu of flowers donations in Wayne's memory may be made to Special Olympics Connecticut 2666 State St. Suite 1Hamden, CT 06517.
